Show New Books Purchased For City Library The public library at Pleasant Grove recently had a birthday, second sec-ond to none, in its previous history. The library board members met with the Chamber of Commerce and with the City Council and asked for financial assistance to purchase new books. Each organization contributed contrib-uted one hundred dollars and the Lindon Town board contributed thirty-five dollars. On Saturday a committee of three, Mrs. Jennie Smith, librarian; Viola West, board member, and Lacy White, teacher, spent the entire day in Salt Lake City selecting carefully, reading material, which would satisfy satis-fy everyone from the beginners to the adult. One hundred dollars was spent of the contributions which meant the purchase of one hundred and fifty new books. The mill tax proportioned to the library merely pays the expense of fuel, lights and the librarian's salary. sal-ary. Heretofore the purchase of new reading material has been a problem prob-lem for the board. A year ago. through a house to house canvas for contributions, a hundred dollars was collected and spent for books. Last winter the P.-T. A. sponsored a library project, which netted forty dollars. A growing library in a community means a cultural recreation for many. Pleasant Grove's library has been growing slowly for years and today it can boast of 5,850 volumes vol-umes with 2.8G7 -people holding reader's cards.
