Show Center Street to Be Oiled By City and State It was definitely decided at the special session of the city council Monday night to oil Center street from Main street to the cemetery. This project was made possible when the council decided to enter into an agreement with the State , Road commission. This is a coop- erative agreement governing the ex-I ex-I penditure of State road funds ac-i ac-i cruing from the registration of 1 motor vehicles. Mr. Melville of the ! State Road commission was present and presented the State Road commission's com-mission's report. It was also reported that the property prop-erty on First West street had been measured as requested by C. E. Young and that a copy of the measurements mea-surements had been sent to him in order that he might contact the property owners in regard to the oiling of that street. It was the sense of the council that the oiling of Mrst West with an oil dust job be approved providing the adjacent property owners buy the oil. Councilman Tregaskis moved that the 1937 budget of the street department depart-ment be increased $2000.00. This motion was seconded and carried. The increase in the budget will be used for the oiling of Center street. The matter of getting soil as a fill for the park project was discussed discuss-ed and a number of places suggested. suggest-ed. The problem of removing or leaving the tennis court behind the library was discussed. The public property committee will investigate further and report back. It was decided that the fence between be-tween the City Hall grounds and the Harrington building be removed and sold. Some abatements on water rates were made and old delinquencies discussed. It was decided that the balance of the delinquent water rates would be collected, the council deciding that Superintendent Pett was to apply all of his time to the collection of water rates. The whole list of delinquent accounts are to be notified that the water will be shut off within five days at the end of the stipulated period, if the account ac-count has not been settled. |
