Show City to Co-operate Willi Lions In Securing Water For School Dr. G. S- Richards and William Chipman, a committee from the Lions j Club, were present at the regular j session of the city council Saturday i evening, September 14, to ascertain j 'the attitude of the council relative to the cooperating with the state in acquiring ac-quiring culinary water for the Utah State Training School provided the same was located here. Dr. Richards stated that the Site Finding committee commit-tee was not unfavorable to the American Ameri-can Fork site provided an ample sup ply of culinary water was available. He stated further that if a resolution assuring the Commission that the mayor and city council of American Fork were willing to cooperate with the state in every possible way to acquire sufficient water for this school, the same would have considerable consid-erable weight in bringing the school . to this locality. road. It was suggested that stop signs be installed on the corners of 3rd and tHh North and 2nd East re-i re-i quiring all cars to come to a stop be-i be-i fore entering 2nd East street. The suggestion was adopted and the matter mat-ter of having suitable stop signs erected was referred to the Street committee. The matter of removing the street sign from the west side of 2nd West street at 2nd North was also al-so referred to the Street committee. Mayor Greenwood reported that S. F. Grant' was desirous of having a ! meeting arranged in which the City ; Commission of American Fork and t Lehi might hear a talk on the need i of plumbing regulations for cities of the third class by a person considered consider-ed authority on the subject. The matter mat-ter of arranging such a meeting was referred to the mayor with power to act. The posting of a reward for information infor-mation leading to the arrest of any. one caught destroying or mutilating the street signs recently erected by the city was referred to the recorder. Mayor Gree'.wood expressed himself him-self as being in harmony with such a resolution and that the council and city should do all that was possible in bringing the institution here, but felt that the city should not guarantee guaran-tee a culinary water supply. After considerable discussion, Councilman Shelley . presented the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, there has been duly enacted by the Legislature of the State of Utah, an act providing for the establishment, building, and equipping of a "Utah State Training School" for the care, isolation, protection, pro-tection, treatment and education of the feeble-minded persons, and WHEREAS, in the selection of a suitable site for the erection of such an institution, its ultimate success depends largely upon an adequate culinary water supply so requisite and necessary to the proper mainten--ance of such a school, and WHEREAS, there exists within five miles of the proposed site at American Fork what is known as the Cave Camp Springs fronii which an ample supply of the finest culinary water in the state can be obtained, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of American Fork City that, should the American Fork Site receive favorable consideration, the Utah State Training School Commission Com-mission be assured of such cooperation coopera-tion arid assistance that is permiss-able permiss-able by law and necessary to supply an adequate amount of culinary water. wat-er. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the tract of land of about thirty acres adjoining the proposed site and owned by the City of American Fork be sold arid conveyed to the State of Utah for the amount of One Dollar. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted transmit-ted to the "Utah State Training School Commission with the Honorable Honor-able Governor George H. Dern and cx-officio member and chairman". The recorder reported that requests re-quests for cigarette permits from the Owl Inn and the Chicken City Cafe together with a request for an oleomargarine oleo-margarine permit from the Skaggs Store has been received and that the same had been issued upon the sane- tion of the mayor and a majority of the council. The Salt Lake & Utah R. R. Co. again presented a resolution regarding regard-ing the granting of the application of the Utah Parks Company by tho Public Pub-lic Utilities Commission of Utah and asked the City to sen'd a signed copy to the commission. Af'er consider, able discussion, final action on the matter was again deferred until the next regular session. Councilman Miller stated that he felt that some of the city officers were underpaid arid that steps should he taken o advance their wages.
