The Firmages spent list winter in Long Beach, returning re-turning home in the spring. Mrs. Jennie Strong, operator of the , local O. P. Skaggs store, returned I Wednesday after visiting four days j in Elko. Nevada, with her daughter, j Alton Briggs. Her youngest daugh- j ter, who accompanied her, remained for a month's visit. Five ladies of the Fourth ward Relief Society met at the home of Miss May Greenwood Tuesday night and made a quilt. At the completion of their task, refreshments refresh-ments were served by Miss Greenwood. Green-wood. Miss Selma Seastrand entertained Tuesday evening in honor of her sister Geneavee who left Thursday to train at the L. D. S. hospital. Eight guests were bidden and enjoyed enjoy-ed games. A dainty lunch was served. serv-ed. The Gleaner girls of the First ward were entertained Wednesday night by Misses Selma and Gen-evee Gen-evee Seastrand. Needle work and social chat were enjoyed and tasty refreshments were served. There were fifteen present. C. A. Wing and Mrs. John Wing spent Labor Day in Bingham Miss Arvilla Devey spent Sunday and Monday as guest of her cousin Miss lone Marsh of Alpine. Wing and son spent last week end in Provo, visiting with Mrs. Wing's father, and sister, David Stagg and Miss Marie Stagg. Mrs. Walter Durrant returned Monday evening from a two days visit in Rupert, Idaho, with relatives. Mrs. Durrant made the trip with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hayes of Kennilwortn. The Fourth ward Sunday School class, taught by Miss Edith Shelley, tucked ttheir bathing suits under one arm and picnic lunch under the other, last Tuesday night and went to Saratoga resort. Aydelotte had as their dinner guests on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Roberts and son of Cedar City; Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Robinson and daughter of Ogden; Mrs. Emma Roberts of Lelii; Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Aydelotte Ayde-lotte of this city. Mrs. Mabel Nelson has returned to American Fork to resume her work as Primary supervisor in the Alpine district. Mrs. Nelson has spent the major part of the past summer in Chicago, attending the Northwestern University. Her son, Roscoe, will join his mother here -within a few days. The occasion being her birthday, last Thursday afternoon a dozen lady friends of Mrs. John Robinson Robin-son gathered at her home. Bridge was the main diversion, three tables being played. Prizes were won by Mrs. Thomas Coddington and Mrs. Thomas Friday. Asters decorated Lake from Richfield. They visited (Mrs. Leavitt's mother, Mrs. Mabel Miller enroute to Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Larson have moved to Magna where Mr. Larson has employment. He has been employed em-ployed at the Yankee Mine and they have been located while here in the James T. Gardner home. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rife and family fam-ily of Eureka spent last week-end 'here with Mrs. Rife's mother, Mrs. Hannah Rhodes. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Har-ry Hageren of Salt Lake visited Mrs. Hageren's sister, Mrs. Rhodes here also. Miss Ora Jean Chipman with Miss Lucile Tobin of Butte, Montana, left Tuesday for Los Angeles to spend the winter. Miss Chipman has been spending the summer months here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Chipman. Oscar Eskelson of Kamas is visiting visit-ing here indefinitely with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Durrant and family. .'Mr. Eskelson probably will spend the Winter here with his daughter and her family. ing. Devey of this city, and Mrs. Glen Adamson of Lehi. MOTHER OF D. W. JONES DIES Mrs. Elizabeth J. Jones, wife of Robert A. Jones, of Ogden, and mother of D. W. Jones of this city, Mrs. D. W. West and Mrs. M. J. Adams of Pleasant Grove visited with Mrs. M. A. Despain Monday. died at her home in Ogden Saturday. Funeral services were held in Ogden Sunday and on Monday afternoon services were conducted in Henefer where burial was made. Mr. and Mrs. Jones and family attended. W. O. A preparation meeting of the Second ward Primary officers and teachers was held Wednesday afternoon after-noon at the home of the president, Mrs. G. A. Anderson. Final plans for the opening social of the organization organ-ization were made, after which light refreshments were served. Mrs. A. Holman, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Monson, Mrs. Delbert Chip-man Chip-man and son, Delbert Ray, attended attend-ed the funeral services of Dr. C. F. Westphal at Magna last Sunday. Sun-day. Dr. Westphal formerly practiced prac-ticed dentistry in Pleasant Grove. Next Tuesday afternoon the 4th ward Relief Society ladies will enjoy en-joy a social at the ward chapel. The social service teachers, Mrs. Elizabeth Coddington, Mrs. Ella Cox and Mrs. Elodia Roberts are in charge of the programs. All members of the organization are urged to be present. They also visited Detroit, as well as many places of interest en-route en-route to and from Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Stewart received re-ceived a message from their daughter, daugh-ter, Loralne. who left here last Sak urday for Cliicago, of her safe arrival ar-rival there on Monday Tuesday she was .married to Merrill Lott of Philadelphia, formerly of Lelii. The young couple visited the World's Fair this week and leave soon for Pluladelphia to make their home. Monday afternoon six women friends of Mioses Lizzie and Annie An-nie Nicholes went to their home Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Jones and two sons of Salt Lake spent the week-end here with Mrs. Melissa Boley who accompanied them back to Salt Lake and is spending the week there. Mrs. Earl Sorensen and Mrs. Alex Karren and families arrived home Friday night after spending three weeks at East portal at Strawberry lake. They visited their husbands who are in the C. C. C. Camps1 there. Mr. Sorensen and Mr. Karren returned re-turned home with them, returning to camp Monday night. The officers and teachers of- the First ward Sunday School entertained entertain-ed Thursday night of last week in the ward chapel, honoring Wayne Chadwick a counselor in the superintendence super-intendence who leaves soon for New York to attend school. Progressive "Stung" was played during the evening after which refreshments were served at the small tables. Included In-cluded in the guests were the members mem-bers of the bishopric and their wives. Tributes of appreciation to Mr. Chadwick were paid by Bishop T. A. Greenwood and officers and teachers teach-ers of the Sunday School. Following the union meeting of the M. I. A. workers of the stake Tuesday night in the tabernacle, a dancingr nartv nxiri wa.t,er-melon Both camps of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the American Fork and Adams camps, will resume regular reg-ular meetings after an adjournment adjourn-ment for the summer.' The camps will hold their opening meeting conjointly in the tabernacle next Thursday afternoon, September 14th, commencing at 2 o'clock. A program has been arranged for the occasion and all pioneers of this city are given a cordial invitation invi-tation to be present, along with all members of the camps, and visitors, also, will be welcome. The program aranged is as follows: fol-lows: Community singing; prayer; vocal duet, Mrs. Edna Boley and Mrs. Ladocia Wagstaff; reading, Mrs. Mary E. Abel; musical selection, selec-tion, Misses Lola and Zella Hansen; Han-sen; talk, a pioneer; violin solo, Ferren Sager; talk, a pioneer; harmonica har-monica solo, Mack Cunningham; musical selection, Mrs. Jennie Chadwick; Chad-wick; a pioneer dramatization; ac-cordian ac-cordian solo, Dr. V. F. Houston, and the benediction. ' Mid spent the afternoon. The ladies lad-ies dressed up comic for the occasion occas-ion and provided a great deal of fun for their hostesses. They took their picnic lunch which was eaten late in the afternoon. Those in the party were Mesdames Charlotte Char-lotte Featherstone, Ann L. Chip-man, Chip-man, Ann Huggard, Alice Barratt, Cynthea Okey and Maud Wilde. "bust" was given the workers of the wards by the stake M. I. A. boards. There were about a hundred in attendance at-tendance and the party was enjoyed en-joyed by all. Mrs. Marie C. Thomas Thom-as and Mr. Snow of the General Board were in attendance at the union meeting, conveying special instructions from the General Board. was a very successful affair. Special guests included the stake presidencies presiden-cies and their wives, the bishops and their wives. A short program was given including 'numbers by the Seventies chorus under the direction of K. J. Bird, after which games and dancing were enjoyed and light refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Gaisford, Mr. and IMrs. Hugh Oheever, Marvin Brown, Victor Gaisford, Earl Gaisford, Gais-ford, Sherman Robinson, Wilson Cunningham and Mack Cunningham spent Sunday and Monday at Ferren reservoir, Emery county, on a fishing fish-ing trip. Mrs. Victor Gaisford accompanied ac-companied her husband as far as Moroni and visited there with the Amos Bradley family. The Variety Club ladies and their husbands spent Monday afternoon in American Fork canyon. Some of the party visited the C. C. C. camp.
