Lady Vikings win state berth Wins last week against Uintah Utes and the Payson Lions locked a berth for the P.G. Lady Vikings in the 3A state tournament, which will be played next week at East High in Salt Lake. The girls traveled to Uintah last Wednesday on reasonably clear roads and came away victorious, 51-46. Joy Warner was high scorer with 10 points. Heather Johnsen and Lisa Hall each had 8 points. ; Joy had 12 rebounds. On Friday night, seven seniors from P.G.'s team were honored prior to playing in their last home j game. They were Vikki Allred, Pam Beagley, Korrie Estes, Lisa Hall, Raquel Scott, Joy Warner and Tracie Williamson. They were recognized, rec-ognized, and then in a combined effort with other teammates, won a lop-sided contest over the Payson Lions with a final score of 74-43. Coach Marie Bone used the game as an opportunity to give every player experience and playing play-ing time on the court. In the final minutes of play, Coach Bone put the starter back on the floor to end their final home game with a victory vic-tory of 74-43. Leading scorers were Heather Johnsen and Vikki Allred with 13 points each. Raquel Scott made 11 points for the team, with Allred rebounding 8. Smith, Estes and Warner each rebounded 7. The community is encouraged to support the girls at the state tourney. tour-ney. Games will begin on Monday, Feb. 27 and continue throughout the week. The J.V. team lost a heart-breaker heart-breaker to Uintah in overtime, 43-47. 43-47. Despite Spring Smith working hard and hitting 15 points and making 14 rebounds, the Lady Vikings lost in the overtime battle. Val Nickell had 7 points. Her and Cheryl Beagley each had 5 rebounds. re-bounds. In their game against Payson, though, the Lady Vikings got their revenge, beating them 55-36. The J.V. ends their excellent season with a 16 and 4 season. |
