ATV safety class begins for youngsters ;; The first ATV safety and train-ing course was held in Pleasant Grove on June 3. John Frampton has been trained through the state as a certified instructor to educate and certify children ages eight to fifteen on how to properly and safely operate an ATV. The course takes about four to five hours to complete. Parents who stayed and watched commented on how much they themselves had learned. Riding vehicles is very popular in Utah. As more people start riding, the chance for acci-dents goes up, Frampton stated. A law passed in 1987 requires OHV education for all operators eight through fifteen who use pub-lic lands. To operate your 0HVMp-Ho- lands you can receive yours-li- s cate by attending the course, "-r- Seven youngsters particir-- last week. JatkPace places flowers in specially built holder he has made to use at the cemetery. Local man designs cemetery flower holder KALYN SECRETAN i. During the past week many people have stopped by the ceme-tery to admire the beautiful floral tributes in honor of those who have piassed away. r The recent rain increased the lijfe of the flowers and it is a pleas-ant experience to wander through te cemetery, see the many flowers ap d reflect upon the lives of others. ' When Jack Pace's wife, Laura, passed away in 1986, Jack wanted a way to keep flowers on his wife's grave. He noticed a couple of iron plant holders in the cemetery and decided to design one for his wife's gfiave. Using ornamental iron he de-ne- d t a plant holder with an twisted design. It was wjelded together, primed and pointed. t He drilled the plant holder into tile cement and sealed it with ep-oj- y cement right into the head-stone. I He checked with the cemetery sexton, Parker Cullimore, before he made the holder and made it to stand above the ground and out of the way of the lawn mowers. This past year Jack completed 13 more plant holders for friends and family. It has been a way to leave flow-ers at the cemetery year round. They will not biow over or get in the way. In the winter, arrangements can stand above the snow. The Paces, Jack and Laura, loved to honor their dead family mem-bers and traveled to Vernal each year to decorate the graves. They had cemetery lots in Vernal but Laura wanted to be buried in the Pleasant Grove cemetery. She thought it was the prettiest ceme-tery there was. Jack and Laura loved to walk through the cemetery on Memorial Day and see the beautiful flowers. LDS General Authority and heart surgeon Russell Nelson spoke at Laura's funeral. She was one of his first heart patients and he described Laura as a patient in the dark ages of heart surgery. She was willing to take the risk of surgery with cour-age and a commitment to raise her two daughters. She was able to live to raise her daughters, Trina and Carla. Last November Jack married Darlene Bevridge. Darlene's hus-band, Larry will be remembered for his contribution to education. He was principal of Valley View School at the time of his death. Jack made plant holders for Larry's grave and Darlene's daugh-ter who died when she was four years old. Jack and Darlene continue to hold a special reverence for Memo-rial Day. They traveled to Vernal and neighboring cemetery's to honor their ancestors. Following a family dinner on .Memorial Day, the family spent the j evening on a leisurely walk v through the cemetery. Jack says as he continues to stop by the cemetery and water flowers, he always runs into a friend or acquaintance at the cemetery. |
