Michael Smith and Maria How ley were taking tests. Vikings of the month named at PGHS Six Pleasant Grove High School students have been named as Vikings of the Month for April. They include seniors Brian Gillman and Stacy Fife, juniors Michael Smith and Maria Rowley, and sophomores Shelley Flinders and Dan Hansgen. Brian is the son of Clint and Marilyn Gillman of Lindon. He has lived in Lindon all of his life. In his early years, Brian participated in several sports such as baseball, wrestling, hunting, fishing and camping. He has been very active in scouting and has earned his Eagle Award. Brian is president of the Pleasant Grove Chapter of the Future Farmers Far-mers of America and he recently received his State Farmers Award. He is also the president of the North Utah County High School Rodeo Club where he does calf roping and team roping. I le works at Superbowl where he is a certified Brunswick mechanic. He also enjoys bowling as a hobby. He plans to attend college this fall. Stacey is the daughter of Allen and Joyce Fife. Stacey has enjoyed all of her school years and has always been a good student. Her lessons always come first and she does her very best. She is listed in "Who's Who Among High School Students". She has been an active participate in DECA competitions as well as an officer in that organization. She has participated in the school dance program and especially enjoyed en-joyed her trip to Washington' D.C. with the Close Up program. Stacey has played on the tennis team and is currently the chairman of the school fashion show which was J held in the Layton Hills Mall. Her hobbies include skiing, reading, painting and traveling with her family. She plans lo attend college next fall. Michael is the son of Bill and Sandy Smith. He wrestled with the Little Mountain Grapplers when he was young and took state in his weight four times. In 1982 he took first in the western regionals in Meridian, Idaho. He loves all sports and has played a little basketball but in ninth grade his interest changed to football. He has played on the ninth and tenth grade teams and this year he played on the J V and varsity teams. His main hobby right now is restoring a 1955 Ford truck. He is taking auto body atUVCC. He recently participated in the Lip Sync contest at the school with the group White Snake. Maria is the daughter of Dudley and Lily Rowley. She loves being outdoors. Her favorite thing in the whole world is water skiing at Lake Powell. She also enjoys snow skiing and quieter things such as reading and playing the piano. She is active in her church and currently serves as Laurel class president. Dancing has always been an important part of her life and she started clogging with the Country-Rhythm Country-Rhythm Cloggers when she was in the fourth grade. After winning many local and regional com petitions, the highlight for the group came when they were asked to represent the V. S at the World Folkloric Festival as part ol Expo '85 in Tokyo. Japan. She is currently involved in or-chesis or-chesis and ballroom dance at the high school. Next year she will be a varsity cheerleader at the school Shelley is the (laughter ol Neil and Joan Flinders. She is an honor student and a skilled seamstress who makes most of her own clothes. She is an accomplished pianist and is an accompanist for the school chorus. Shelley is active in her church and enjoys family centered activities. She likes the out of doors and enjoys the family cabin in the Monte Canyon. She is secretary for the Supreme Court that has recently revised the PGHS constitution. Shelley is most noted for her friendly smile and her sense of humor. Dan is Ihe son of F. Ted and .lulene Hansgen. He was a Deserel News spelling bee winner when he was younger. He enjoys sports sewing at Ihe school and foods is another fun class as well as a hobby. Danny can make a delicious stir-fry dinner in a wok He is active in his church and takes seminary. He enjoys golling and his favorite foods are pizza, broccoli, potatoes (no gravy, please i and pistachios An artist. Dan has won several local contests including the l!in Utah County Fair program cover contest which gave him a S7T prize He entered that contest again this year. He has been a contributing member of the championship teams in baseball in Little League and Pony League A highlight last summer was a trip to the Western Regional Baseball Tournament at Chubbuck. Idaho where he and other boys represented Pleasant Grove and the State of Mali in play there '"'"' He played basketball al Mie high school this year He plans on attending college and would like to become employed in the Health Occupations field. |
