Show Citizen, Press, Review - W ed., Jan. 27, 15)88 - Page 14 Liston to teach two art classes If you have always wanted to learn to paint or draw, but didn't think you had the talent, you might want to take advantage of two classes being offered in the American Fork area winter quarter by under the Com-munity Education program. Betty Liston, Pleasant Grove artist, will teach "Drawing for Adults 16 years and older" and "Painting in Oils, for Adults 16 years and older," both on Thursday nights. "Drawing for Adults, 16 years and older" begins Thursday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 12 at the American Fork Junior High School. Cost for eight sessions is $13. The class ends Mar. 17. Basic art principles and drawing in charcoal and pencil will be taught with the class geared for the student who has an interest in art and drawing, but needs some professional guidance. The second class, "Painting in Oils, for Adults 16 years and older" also begins Thursday, Jan. 28, but is from 7 to 9 p.m. in room 128 at American Fork Junior High School. Cost for the 8 week course is $22. The class ends Mar. 17. This class offers the basics of oil painting for the beginning or amateur painter. Instruction on still life, landscape and portraits will be given. Although students may choose their own project, elements of design will be stressed with an emphasis on value, color, and form. Beginners should bring materials Betty Liston for sketching and taking notes the first night, with amateurs to bring materials ready to paint. Mrs. Liston has painted professionally for many years, and has taught Adult Education classes for the past several. She has studied under well-know- n area artists, and has won many awards in various competitions for her work. She belongs to the American Fork Steel Days Art Committee, the Utah Valley Art Guild, and the Artists Section of the Womens' Council. She is employed as darkroom technician at Newtah News Group. She believes art is not just a matter of talent but is 99 percent hard work and dedication. Q obituaries A. Frank Gaisford A.
