She told many interesting stories about going to to school on a horse. The school was just one room and was heated by a pot bellied stove. She reminisced about the severe dust storms in Kansas and how black the sky would get before a storm hit. Her family moved from Kansas and lived in 10 different states. She attended junior high in Bremerton, Wash., when her father worked in the shipyards. Later they moved to Vernal, where she graduated from high school in 1949. They moved to Provo where she attended beauty school and at-tended BYU. She joined a social club, the Cougarettes, and ran for beauty queen. 'Tidal' finishes in Arabian horse show By KALYN SECRETAN "Tidal," an Arabian horse owned by Bill and Esther Patterson and Sherrie Ellsworth of Pleasant Grove, took third place at the Utah Valley Arabian Horse Show in Spanish Fork. The horse was purchased a year ago from Mason's Arabians of Provo. A double bask stallion, "Tidal" was sired by "Crown Royal," a bask son from a Port Bask Mare "Baja." The Port Bask line is one of the most successful Arabian stallions in the world. The Utah Valley show was the first for- the local stallion. He will. soon be taken to Salt Lake City for additional shows including the Utah State Fair. Following the fair, he will be taken for a show in Black-foo- t, Ida. Horses were brought to the Utah Valley show from all over the state, also Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona. An Egyptian Arabian horse from Salt Lake took first place while a stallion from Melville's in Orem placed second. The owners have spent one to two hours a day working with Tidal to get him ready for the show season. Bill expressed, "It takes a lot of time, but it has been a chance for the whole family to do something The Pattersons are the parents of four children, two sons and two daughters. One daughter, Mary Jo, started riding horses at the Schows when she was only three-years-ol- The interest in Arabian horses was developed through Russell Schow. Mr. Schow used to show his horses when the family was younger. Bill blames the Schows for getting him interested in working with horses and he's been hooked on it ever since. Tidal's first foals were born this year and have all shown to be beautiful offspring. Bill stressed the main reason for obtaining the stallion was for breeding purposes. A horse can win .all .they.. want, . but what matters most is how they produce. To be really effective, it must produce as well as show. Airman Adamson graduates Air national Guard Airman Robert L.
