' Irease. jtyDriggs, Finance and Budget , or for the city, said he felt the uncil's goals were to not have ;e taxes, to have a balanced . t, and to bring wages more in line with the state average. The council had indicated a desire to make city salaries more competitive com-petitive last winter when they gave a salary adjustment to the city employees em-ployees in Dec. The city council has held work sessions for the budget. They had asked the department heads to keep their budget requests in line with last year's budget as much as possible. Although this budget is just a tentative one for 1986-87, Driggs said he felt that there will be little change between this one and the final budget proposal required in August. He added that it appears at the present time that the city will be able to totally pay off the debt in the general fund this year. Several years ago the city had a deficit in the general fund. Each year the city has been reducing the deficit with payments at the end of each budget year. Driggs said they would not be absolutely sure the debt was completely com-pletely paid off until the audit is completed in the fall. |
