Show A Cappella Capades entertains large audience with beautiful Christmas music and comedy By MARCELLA WALKER Terry Tucker, director of the vocal music department, Cloggers West and Rustic Rhythm Cloggers of Pleasant Grove High School, said Monday, Dec. 8, that he was worried about having a crowd out for the Tuesday night performance of the A Cappella Capades. He needn't have worried. Pleasant Grove audiences have grown to expect a fabulous show when the A Cappella Capades are on each year. This year was no exception. ex-ception. - The program began with the A -Cappella Choir singing "A Christinas Christ-inas Rhapsody." The girls of the A Cappella Choir sang "Gesu Bambino" Bam-bino" and the boys of the A Cappella Choir sang "Oh Come All Ye Faithful." They were followed by the Chamber Choir and the Mixed Chorus. ' The Cloggers West and Rustic Rhythm Cloggers performed next and then David Fullmer, band director at PGHS, played "Brass Holiday" on the trumpet. As usual, the novelty numbers by the boys of the A Cappella Choir were very entertaining. Every year they come up with some unheard of song to sing, with plenty of weird costumes and actions thrown in for good measure. It is a mystery where these humorous songs come from. Certainly, the dignified Terry Tucker could have nothing to do with finding such numbers. The boys sang "You Can't Have Your Kate and Edith, Too." Theresa Parr sang "Evergreen" and the A Cappella Girls sang one of my favorites, "Starbright." The cloggers then performed again, including in their numbers the every popular "Orange Blossom Special." Following a short intermission the A Cappella Choir came back to sing several beautiful numbers. They concluded with "Hallelujah" from "The Messiah." Accompanists for the various numbers were played by Janilyn Patch, Heidi Henriksen, Natalie Little, April Benjamin, Jill Wright, Jenny Beagley, David Hewitt and Lisa Brown. David Fullmer on the trumpet and Todd Bills on the tympani also participated in "Hallelujah." A very large number of students participated in this annual event. That is one of the things which makes it so outstanding. - Another great thing about the A Cappella Capades is the beautiful Christmas music. There is not another holiday of the year that has generated such beautiful music as this one. The talented students,' under a capable leader, have been able to present a program of Christmas favorites which really appeal to the public at this time of year. We will be looking forward to next year's production. |
