Carter, daughter of Mr. John Carter of Sandy and the late Mrs. Carter, will marry John B. Abbott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark ; Abbott, American Fork, Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Manti LDS Temple. A dinner will be held in their honor Thursday evening at Chuck-a-Ram- a in Salt Lake City. The bride-ele- ct graduated from :; Jordan High School and LDS Seminary. She is currently em-ployed at National Semiconductor in West Jordan. Her fiance attended LDS Seminary and graduated from American Fork High School. John Abbott Joyce Carter High school parent-teach- er conferences set All parents of Pleasant Grove High School students are reminded that parent-teache- r conferences will be held today and tomorrow from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the boys gym. Principal Tom Carlile encourages all parents to attend and learn how their students are doing at midterm while it is still early enough to brine some grades up, if necessary. If there are any questions please call the high school at Balloon launch to kick off drive Watch the skies over Pleasant Grove on Oct. 9 to see a blast of color. According to Rosalie Smith, Pleasant Grove PTA Council president, they will sponsor a bolloon launch that day. All of the students in each of the elementary schools - Manila, Grovecrest, Central, Valley View, and Lindon -- will participate along with students from Pleasant Grove Junior High School. The Pleasant Grove High School PTA will conduct their balloon launch at anotner time as the students will be out of school that day for parent visiting day. Over 3,000 helium filled balloons will be sent aloft at 2 p.m. A note will be included on each balloon asking the finder to please notify the school where the balloon was found. Each school's PTA organization is responsible for their launch, with overall correlation by Pat Fenton of the PTA Council. Brian Kelly of Highland will go aloft in his colorful hot-ai- r balloon, which is sponsored by the Bank of American Fork, at the time of the balloon launch. This will occur at 9:30 a.m. from Valley View School. The students will let their balloons go at the same time. Mr. Kelly will allow the students to help him set up his balloon and will explain to them the principles of r ballooning and air currents. This balloon launch is a state-wid- e PTA sponsored event. Balloons will be launched from the state capitol steps at 2 p.m. that day and schools throughout the state will participate in support of PTA membership and enrollment. !? ? f? These PGHS students are hoping to win the title of Sweater King at the annual Sweater Swing dance Saturday night. Sweater Swing slated Saturday It's soon time for the annual FHA sponsored Sweater Swing. The theme is "Take 86!" It will be held the evening of October 5, at 9 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove High School. Friday, October 4, will be the Sweater Swing Assembly, at which time we will auction off the cakes the Sweater King candidates have made (from scratch)! " Bone, a member of the Utah National Guard, recently completed his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Eusis, VA. While there he received a cer-tificate of achievement for scoring extremely high on the three-pa- rt Army Physical Readiness Test. He was selected Company Student Soldier of the Month for the month of September;, being selected over approximately 350 other students. PFC Bone was awarded the Army Achievement Medal by the Department of the Army and was also distinguished graduate of his class. Having completed the Attack Helicopter Repairer Course, he is not attached to the Attack Helicopter Troop 163rd Air Cavalry Regiment, in West Jordan, Utah. Shaun is the son of Lorin and Jean L. Bone.
