Show First Response saves lives Your husband has just fallen to the floor unconscious. You are terribly frightened but you quickly call the Pleasant Grove Police Department at 785-3333 or 911. Clearly and carefully you give your name, address and the problem. You then stay on the line, unless the victim hasj stopped breathing and you need to perform life saving measures, so that you can give further information in-formation if it is needed . In seconds you can hear the siren. Help is on the way. Even though, you are still frightened, the worry is eased by the thought that competent help will be on hand in just moments. First to arrive may be a Pleasant Grove Police Officer Of-ficer but right at his heels will be the First Response Rescue Vehicle with a highly trained officer and all the equipment necessary to give life saving assistance. The First Response Vehicle will be followed closely by other Emergency Medical Technicians who will come directly to the scene and then the ambulance will arrive with two qualified individuals ready to serve. Quietly and competently these volunteers will go to work giving the medical assistance required and then they will transport the victim to the hospital if it is necessary. These EMT's will treat you kindly and courteously and will give you the assurance you may need in a traumatic situation. When the victim arrives at the hospital, these men and women will stay at his side. They will assist the doctors in any way they can. They will hold your hand and try to give you comfort. They will stay as long as you need them to and then they will return to their duties whether it was as a homemaker, a construction worker, a computer programmer, or a city employee. These, people spend thousands of hours in training, a keeping up to date on the latest in rescue, extrication, 8 first aid, CPR, and a multitude of other things they are f required to know. They work as volunteers. They save lives. j The emergency dispatchers breathe a sigh of relief ; when they know that the EMT's are on their way. The ? neighbors and friends of the victims are amazed at the professionalism of the EMT's and the extent of their x training. , The Pleasant Grove City Council is to be commended i for having the foresight to begin the First Response program. It has decreased the response time to a call by I several minutes. It provides for a qualified individual to s be on the scene in moments . Seconds are the difference, sometimes, between life and death. The First Response program gives you those 11 precious seconds. Whatever the cost of the program, it s is worth it because a price cannot be placed on any life. f This week is Emergency Medical Services Week in ti Pleasant Grove and across the nation. If you appreciate 11 our EMT's, let them know. k ii |
