Show Nationals win Coca-Cola toiarney The Nationals picked up where they left off last year by winning the 1984 Coca-Cola Fast-Pitch Softball Invitational. Winning second place was the Lindon-Precision Playboys from the local league and third place went to Transport TireState Brass out of Salt Lake City. Steve Petersons Interiors "B" team took fourth place with Hill Field Air Force taking fifth place along with Organized Parking from our local league. Other local teams which finished in the standings were Barretts Builders Supply, Interstate Transmissions, with Wil's Family and the Saints finishing the highest of any of the "C" Class teams. The Nationals won the automatic berth into the Rocky Mountain Regionals to be held in Riverton, Wyoming in August by virtue of their tournament win. The Nationals in order to win had to win five-straight games, with some really hard fought games taking place. They came from behind to beat a surprisingly strong Rock Canyon Assembly of God team 10-5. This game was followed by a 3-1 win over Oak Crest Inn of Spanish Fork, they then played a flawless game to beat Organized Parking 5-0 only to win a very close game from the lindon Precision Playboys 5-4 with a spectacular catch in the bottom of the 7th inning to preserve the victory. They then beat the same team for the championship 10-2. The Lindon-Precision Playboys worked their way into the championship with a close 2-1 win over Hill Air Force Base and an exciting 4-1 win over Transport Tire State Brass team from Salt Lake City. Kay Thayne, one of the outstanding pitchers for Nationals was named MVP for the tournament for his clutch pitching throughout the tournament. The next men's Fast-Pitch tournament to be held in Pleasant Grove will be the Wasatch Banks Invitational to be scheduled June 15 and 16, to be followed by the Golden Corral tournament to be held July 5, 6 and 7. g -- ty y y ;:- '?
