IRS exam date set, applications due soon Individuals who wish to take the 19:j Internal Revenue Service Special Enrollment Examination must have their applications postmarked no later than August 15. the Salt Lake City District Director of the IKS said. No extensions will be granted. The two-day examination will be given Monday and Tuesday, October Oc-tober 3 and 4, in Salt Lake City. It is given annually in each district to individuals other than attorneys or certified public accounts. Individuals who pass the examination may apply for enrollment to practice (represent clients) before the IRS. The application fee is $50 for those taking all four parts of the examination, and $40 for prior year examinees taking fewer than four parts. All checks or money orders must be made payable to the "Internal Revenue Service." The examination will include true or false, multiple choice and problem-type questions. Those interested in taking the examination should obtain the Special Enrollment Examination Application Packet by calling 524-4368 524-4368 in Salt Lake City or toll-free, 1-800-424-1040, or they can write to Enrolled Agent Examination Coordinator, 4G5 South Fourth East, Salt lake City, Utah 84111. If a person is only interested in preparing returns, it is not necessary to take the examination. The packet includes materials on the requirements for enrollment and on the requirement for taking the examination - application, sample enrollment exam questions and answers, regulations governing practice of enrolled agents, back ground material, rules for tax return preparers, and a form to order special study materials. |
