For further in formation, contact Cheryl LeBaron , 224-153- or study group leader, LaDawn Jacob, Free Screening Clinic For Hyperactivity Offered A free screening clinic for hyperactivity and speech and hearing will be conducted Sep-tember 18 and 25 from 8 to noon at the Rocky Mountain Family In stitute, 420A South State Street, Orem. Children three years and older are en-couraged to participate. Although the professional staff at the institute are donating their time for the clinic, there will be a minimal charge for testing materials and handouts. The purpose of the clinic is to identify hyperactivity and" speech and hearing problems and to suggest appropriate treatment. Parents who are not sure about their child's condition are invited to bring them in for evaluation. "Hyperactivity, today is a recognized clinical condition and is treatable," explains Dr. Jack Jensen, staff psychologist at the institute, "and can be distinguished from usual acting-ou- t behavior of children." Even borderline hyperactivity can impair learning, disrupt classes and frustrate families. Symptoms of hyperactivity include short attention span (no follow through with homework either at school or at home), short temper, and difficulty with interpersonal relationships, as well as inability to perform certain perceptual motor tasks. Speech and hearing tests will be ad-ministered by a licensed audiologist and the screening for hyperactivity by professional psychoth-erapists. For further in-formation or to make an appointment, call the institute at 224-516- I i ,!; ,' - ; ; '. , - y f r'"' ' :" ;": I ' - f mw w r-- T. , , J - U.r-- . , I ' - " ' . Hospital Installs New Blood Analyzer In order to increase labor efficiency and to improve patient care, American Fork Hospital has installed an Automatic Clinical Analyzer (ACA), a new sophisticated instrument designed to auto-matically analyze blood serum and other body fluids. This system, developed by the DuPont Company, performs rapid and accurage chemical analyses of body fluids. Previously it took the hospital's lab personnel three hours to run tests the machine can now do in a little over 30 minutes. John Linebaugh, lab department mana-ger, said the machine is expected to save the hospital many man hours each week. Mark J. Howard, hospital administrator, said "The ACA represents a major investment for our hospital and gives the laboratory the added capacity to respond to the growingneeaTTor quick and accurate " diagnostic tests day or night." "Chemical analyses represent the largest group of clinical tests performed in the laboratory, Linebaugh said. "The ACA enables the existing staff to accept this increasing workload without compromising efficiency or quality. We can obtain the first test results from the instrument in less than eight minutes, making it extremely beneficial in emergency cases," he added. "The ACA has the basic capability of performing 48 diagnostic tests, in any order. These tests range from the analysis of glucose (sugar) in the blood to more sophisticated needs, such as liver-lacti- c dehydrogenase, used in suspected cases of liver diseases. Chiong Teh, medical technologist, recently completed a week long training session on the operation and maintenance of the ACA at DuPont's training center in Clairmont, California. Howard noted the utility of the ACA for routine emergency use " makes" it a valuable asset to the laboratory. "It will help us provide better patient care, through improved laboratory services and that is the goal of the American Fork Hospital," he said. ; Mod. yjKS) Hon. AA - 'J sept. c ) ,1,... oct.
