In order to lessen the confusion and misunderstanding which may arise as the fall recreation program is published, the Pleasant Grove Recreation Department has clarified the status of its future programming as it relates to the local Alpine School District's Community School. Beginning with the fall session, the recreation department and the Alpine School District's Community School programs will be separate. Even though the community school offerings of-ferings will be very similar, and in many instances, a direct duplication of those offered by the local recreation department, people should not be confused. After seven years of cooperative programming, the Alpine School District has chosen to discontinue its affiliation with the Pleasant Grove Recreation Department by replacing Phil Marrott, formerly a co-funded director (two-thirds city financed and one-third school district financed) with a full-time Community School Director. Marrott will continue working with the recreation department as assistant recreation director in charge of programming and supervisor super-visor of scheduling and programming the renovated multi-purpose center upon its completion which is scheduled for the latter part of October. Oc-tober. Prior to the joint programming with the school district's community school, the Pleasant Grove City Recreation program was a fully functioning, year-round recreation department. It will now continue this level of operation with some 35 different dif-ferent class offerings for fall, plus the various levels of athletic programs such as flag football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, etc. The use of the junior high school will be somewhat restricted due to the additional agencies' use. However, building arrangements are in the negotiating stage between district and city officials to preserve the use of not only the classrooms, but also the gymnasiums in both the junior and senior high school which have been used on a regular basis for city programming during the past 15 years. Registration for fall classes may be made at the recreation office, 41 E. |
