Show Hunter safety stressed in Uinta National Forest Lands Hunting season has traditionally been a time to get out in the woods and enjoy the beauties of nature. Whether it be family tradition, added meat on the table, or the thrill of the hunt, the Uinta National Forest lands have provided access to hunting areas for many years. Gary Coleman, Recreation and Lands Officer for the Uinta National Forest, said hunter safety and extra caution will allow for fewer accidents and a more enjoyable hunt. "Please double check your firearm to be sure it is unloaded before placing it in your vehicle," Coleman said. "Carry your gun properly and be especially sure of your target." "Vehicles driving off established roads have scarred the landscape in the past, affecting both watershed and vegetation," Coleman said. "Recent rains have left dirt roads extremely muddy. Vechicles can easily get stuck, thus leaving deep ruts which cause severe damage to roads. Off-road and trail motorized vehicle use is permissible when retrieving legally taken big game animals using a desirable direct route that does not disturb the soil or vegetation. Forest officials urge hunters to comply with the "Pack-in, Pack-out" program by taking ample trash bags with them so they can pack garbage out. |
