Show Lindon names woman to fill vacant council post For the first time in Lindon City's 58-year history a "flower has been planted among the thorns". So expressed ex-pressed the council last Wednesday night as Diane Hacking was sworn in as the new councilwoman to fill the vacancy left when Dennis Thompson resigned in September to go abroad. Mrs. Hacking has been actively involved in Lindon City government for quite some time as a private citizen, a member of the planning commission and a member of the ad hoc committee drafting the new animal ordinance. Her political career began when a group of neighbors took action against something that had come up in the neighborhood a few years ago. A petition went around and Diane's husband was scheduled to present it to thePlanning Commission. When he was unable to make it, Diane went in his stead. The commission was impressed and remembered her when a vacancy came up in that group. Diane was offered the seat and has been acting in that capacity ever s ince. Mayor McMillan had several good candidates recommended to him, he said. He considered each person and chose Mrs. Hacking on the basis of her qualities. McMillan said that she has proven her capabilities in the planning commission and came highly recommended by the council and many otherpeople. He feels that she has good common sense, is concerned about the city, is well-organized, and has shown leadership qualities. McMillan says he is thrilled that she has accepted the position on the council. Diane is the mother of three cidren, ages 6, 4, and 2. She and her husband, James, have lived in Lindon lor the past three years. Before her marriage, she majored in clothing and textiles at BYU and has helped her husband over the years in his contracting business. Mrs. Hacking says she feels her 11 years experience in the construction business with her husband should help her in fulfilling her responsibilities respon-sibilities on the council. She will be in charge of waterand sewer. |
