Track and Field Springville downed Pleasant Grove in a dual track meet held last week at P.G. The visiting Red Devils took the girls division 76-5- 3 and beat the boys 92-4- Top performer for the meet was Dayna Tolman of PG. She won four events, shot put, javelin, long jump and high jump. Tolman will enter the Pentathalon at the BYU Invitational and will be favored to place in the top five in that event. Here are the PG point winners in each event. Monday at American Fork the Vikes fell to the Cavemen, 4--1. AF's Kyle Hardman threw a two hitter at the Vikings with Scott Walker and Clark Hill getting the two hits. Baseball Pleasant Grove crushed Orem, 13-- 3 Saturday in region Six baseball. Hal Gillman, Carl Rutledge and Doug Hooley had three hits each with Paul Phelon and Rutledge driving in three runs apiece. Last Thursday the Vikes outslugged the Provo Bulldogs, 20-1- with Ron Rosenson and Garth Wilson each getting three hits. Steve Warner was the winning pitcher. and built up a 7-- 0 lead before the Tigers second three runs in the bot-tom of the fifth. PG came right back with a six run sixth and then cut shot an Orem rally in the bottom of the seventh to win 13-- Phelon had a big home run in the sixth with Hooley getting the credit for the win. The game was played on BYU's field following the BYU-Uta- h game. Lavell Edwards BYU football Coach, LaVell Ed-wards, spoke to nearly 200 early rising PGHS students last Thursday at the Seminary Morningside. Coach Edwards, the most suc-cessful football coach in BYU history and a native of Utah County, told the students that they each have the "potential to do something very well." "If you become self directed and learn to dicipline yourself you can become successful," Coach Edwards said. He added that there is "no substitute for hard work whether you want an 'A' in English, to make the CAROLYN BLACKHAM clears hurdle on the way to a second place finish in the 300it' 18 hurdle race against Springville. Blackham, just a sophomore, won two events and fir second in two others for an outstanding day. On Saturday, Biggs was third in the Davis County Invitational Meet in Kaysville.
