Show Timp Cave Tours Resume Conducted cave tours will resume at Timpanogos Cave National Monument on Saturday, May 16. Ticket sales will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.. A fee of $.50 for persons sixteen and older will be charged, persons under sixteen are admitted free. Group reservations are required for groups of ten or more people on weekdays and no reservations can be made for weekends or holidays when tours are filled on a first-come first-served first-served basis. Visitors need to allow three hours to hike up the steep one and a half mile trail, take the one hour tour through the cave and hike back down to the visitor center. The trail rises 1,065 feet up the side of Mt. Timpanogos and visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and take a jacket or sweater for the tour through the damp 42 degree temperature inside the cave system. There is drinking water at the visitor center and cave but none along the trail, so some visitors may wish to take a canteen along for the hike. At present the Visitor Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily and offers an exhibit room and free 12-minute 12-minute slide program. A short nature trail and picnic area are also available to visitors. |
