Show "Sorenson Named Director of Medical Association Executive Order of Governor Matheson, and funded by the state legislature, is conducting major studies in five areas: Telecommunication, Telecom-munication, Executive Management, Business Regulation, Social Services and Natural Resources. Legislation will be prepared for presentation to the Governor and to the 1983 General Session of the Utah Stale Legislature, as a result of these studies. Telecommunication services being studied include data processing, mobile radio, and microwave tran smissions, and public broadcasting. Members of many state and local agencies having an interest in these services, either as providers or users, will be interviewed. The Executive Management subcommittee is studying the functions func-tions of the Lieutenant Governor. Some changes in duties may be necessary since the Lieutenant Governor will run and be elected in tandem with the Governor in 1984. The subcommittee will also study the State Tax commission and continue monitoring the newly formed Department of Administrative Services. The Business Regulation subcommittee sub-committee is examining the Department of Business Regulation, including the Public Service Commission, Com-mission, the Division of Public Utilities, and the Committee on Consumer Services. A review of the organizational structure of the Department of Social Services in continuing. The study includes the Division of Family "Services, "Aging, Alcoholism and Drugs, Mental Health and Field Services. In accordance with the legislation passed during the 1981 session, the subcommittee on Natural Resources is monitoring and evaluating the newly formed Department of Natural Resources and Energy. The key concern of the Committee is that a balance between the two areas of interest, i.e., Energy and Minerals and Resource Management be ob-tained. J. Leon Sorenson, Executive Director of the Utah State Med Veal Assoaation has been named as the new Vice-chairman of the Committee on Executive Reorganization In accepting the assignment, Mr. Sorensen said, "The Reorganization Committee is an influential force in state government. It allows citizens : with expertise in various areas to study the executive branch of government and recommend changes to increase effectiveness, lower costs and eliminate duplication." Mr. Sorenson has worked with the Committee for four years. He was an ex-officio member while serving as Director of the Legislative Research Office. Later, when he left state employment, he became a full member serving on the Social Services Ser-vices subcommittee, which was instrumental in-strumental in establishing the new Department of Health. He replaces Mr. Kenneth Olson who served as Vice-Chairman for four years. Mr. Olson recently resigned from the Committee due to other commitments. com-mitments. The Committee, created by |
