Show JL J A A Review -- Thursday, December 3, 1981- - page 4 :' V . , Word Processing Micro-Compute- rs Now In Use At PGHS This year the Alpine School District used pari of its vocational budget to purchase micro-comput- er word processors for each of the high schools in the district. Pleasant Grove High School has now installed a micro-compute- r, floppy disc drives, a line printer and four ter-minals in the business department. Software, or programming, for word processing was also purchased. Each of the students will spend ap-proximately five weeks on the word processors -- - an integral part of their business education. During the five-wee- k period, the students learn controls of the various software programs. They also learn how to use the word processing equipment and they print finished work after editing and storage. The new micro-computer word processors are very beneficial to the students. Many businesses today are installing word processors and the fields of computer technology and word processing are steadily increasing. Mrs. West, business teacher, said the high school business department has needed these word processors for some lime. After a few years of proposals lo the slate, the vocational committee authorized the purchase of Ihese word processors. They now see the tremendous need for students to learn the word processing and data .processing skills. Mrs. West also mentioned that when she taught at the college level, word processing classes were in great demand. Many students in her classes wanted to learn word processing lo obtain high-payin- g jobs in the business field. Word processing is a challenging and exciting career for many. Many jobs in word processing are available, because businesses want good word processors. The students at the high school level should have the opportunity of being exposed to word processing, so they can obtain these jobs right after high school. Most districts in the ate of Utah have word ik. processors business deparC ca"se they novv he tremendous need ! these units. or Anyone interested in seeing the processors at J school is WelC0men' come to the busing department to obser the students in action 0 the new machines sav Mrs. West.
