Show P.G. City Beautification Committee Holds Meet A meeting of the City Beautification Committee was held Thursday, March 22, at the Public Safety Building with Bill Hoglund, Supervisor of Parks and Recreation conducting. In his opening remarks, Mr. Hoglund brought out that this committee had been formed to accomplish ac-complish the projects proposed to make Pleasant Grove more beautiful. Mr. Guy Weber, Project Engineer for the new Central Park was welcomed and asked to report on the progress of the park. He stated that Phase 1 of the construction would be complete on May 15. This includes the sprinkler system and lawns. Phas 2 of the project will go out for bid in about a month. Phase 2 of the project will include restrooms with storage areas, tennis courts with coin-operated lights, playing fields, asphalt pathways and bleacher areas some of which are to be built on concrete pads. Mr. Weber stated that there should be a good turf by mid June after which Phase 2 could be started. A full discussion then ensued regarding the grass areas and the planting of trees. Mr. Weber stated that the contractor would not negotiate to have Phase 2 start before Phase 1 was completed. City Councilman Steve Peterson then introduced John Kerr, Beautification Chairman for Pleasant Grove. Mr. Kerr, Garden City Manager at American Fork Nursery, has moved to this area from California. He reviewed his credentials in the field of landscape. He asked for cooperation in developing new ideas and maintaining main-taining areas now developed. Jim Starr, Park Foreman, expressed ex-pressed the need to set priorities for park crew development. Dixie Beck of the Shade Tree Commission brought out that the trees in the Time and Tempera tr island had to be removed and moved to another area. Councilman Steve Peterson suggested that various clubs be asked to be responsible for various sections to be maintained. He also discussed the annual City Clean-Up Project. Moya Told, president of the Pleasant Grove Garden Club, presented plans for Garden Club projects regarding redecoration a room in the Recreation Building for use by various civic clubs. She also accepted the challange of Councilman Peterson to have the Garden Club oversee the main-tainence main-tainence of the Rose Garden and to help get others involved. Mr. Hoglund had prepared a list of areas which should be considered for beautificaiton. A full discussion on the concentration of efforts on entrances en-trances to Pleasant Grove, City Hall, City Recreation Building and general clean up involving youth was held and assignments made to committee members made to get the job done. Plans to follow up in the near futur were made and meeting adjourned. |
