BOYD HILL Boyd Hill Wins Century III Leadership Boyd Hill has won the Century III Leaders Scholarship competition at Pleasant Grove High School, according accor-ding to Principal John P. Gourley. The seventeen year old senior is now eligible to compete with other high school seniors throughout Utah state for two $1,500 scholarships, two $500 scholarships, and also for a $10,000 national scholarship that will be awarded ina conference of state winners in historic Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Mr. Hill triumphed in the local ph ase of the Century III Leaders program, pro-gram, a scholarship competition which emphasizes the future concerns con-cerns of America. Students were judged on the basis of their leadership leader-ship abilities, community involvement involve-ment and a score on a current events examination. To compete at the state level, Boyd must now write a brief projection outlining what he thinks is one of America's future challenges and how it should be met. Runners-up in the competition at Pleasant Grove High School are Robert Beppuy and Sherrie Hull-inger. Hull-inger. Boyd, son of A. Clyde and Hanna Hill, now competes with other high school winners from around the state for four scholarships and an opportunity oppor-tunity for the $10,000 top national scholarship. The two Utah winners will receive an all expense trip to the fourth annual an-nual Century III National Leadership Leader-ship Seminary in Williamsburg, March 7-10, 1979, to participate in seminars on current issues. In previous years, speakers at the seminars were such notables as news commentator Howard K. Smith, architectfuturist ar-chitectfuturist Buckminster Fuller, and anthropologist Rene Dubos. The program is administered by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and funded by Shell Oil Company. Boyd Hill is active in school. He is president of the Science club and on the tennis team. His hobbies and interests in-terests are violin or fiddle. His future plans include a chemistry major at one of the universities. |
