Show Vikings Win 1 st Three Ball Games by Guy Madsen The Pleasant Grove Vikings advanced their record to 3-0 by soundly soun-dly defeating the Uintah Uin-tah Utes 72-56 Friday night. Mark Atwood led the charge as he scored 20 points and had a fine defensive game. David Ratliff helped out with 16 points and Junior forward Craig Giles added 14. Both teams started out slow but after scores by Ratliff and Atwood the Vikes took a 19-8 lead at the first quarter buzzer. The Utes came back and caught the Vikes in the second quarter but the Vikings wouldn't break and lead 31-27 at half time. The Vikes made a good start in the second half by playing exceptional defense and kept Uintah outside. out-side. On offense they took command and made a good percentage percen-tage of their shots. Ratliff and Atwood started to burn the nets and Hansen, Giles, and Atwood took control of the boards. The game ended with P.G. having four players in double figures with Garth Hansen scoring 12 along with Atwood, Ratliff, and Giles. The vikings travel to Payson Friday night to take on the tough Payson Lions in the first region game. Game time is at 7:30. Proceeding the Varsity Var-sity contest will be the J.V. battle at 5:30 with the Sophomores playing their first erame at 3:30. D.m. |
