Variety Club Meets in November at Walker's Schoonover, Mary Harper, Mary Swenson and Margret Kelley. The November meet-ing of the Variety Club was a most enjoyable evening at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Walker. A tasty luncheon was served by the hostess. The evening was spent visiting and planning the annual husband and wives Christmas party. The hostess was presented with a lovely gift from her secret pal. Those present were Merle Armitstead, Eva Reynolds, Ida Halliday, Thelma Swenson, Beth Warburton, Earlin Walker, Evelyn Mary Gives Facts on Equal Rights Amendment (As She Sees Them) by Mary West Its time I spoke out on Equal Rights. Ive held back long enough and now you guys are gonna hear it like it is. Recently I had an equal right. My husband bought the paint and I got to use it. I complained that I was supposed to be the boss of the organization and that he keeps telling me that I have so many fringe benefits. How come I have to paint the restrooms? My husband answered very quickly, you fringe benefit is a Cadillac to carry your paint brushes in, now go paint. Later that day I was talking to another Equal Righter, Kathy Flat. She told me that she was not going to paint the inside of their new shop. Marvin said, "We can save a lot of money if we paint the shop our-selves." Her reply was, "The we means me, if I paint the shop you save a lot of money and I'm not going to do it." How dare she try to destroy all the rights we have worked so hard for. How dare she refuse to take her equal right. I've always had equal rights, I can't figure out why we have to vote them into law. I have the right to fill the gas tanks on all our cars and he has the right to empty them I have the right to pay all the bills with the money he puts in the bank. I have the right to make his reser-vations for his fishing trips with his friends and then he lets me feed the dogs and tend the business while he is gone. If I don't like how something is being done at our place of business, Don offers me the coveralls and tells me to get to it. I get to make out all the invoices and collect all the money, then I get to give it to him. When we go somewhere, I drive and he rides. He bought me a new washer, I installed it. But I fooled him, he bought me a new lawn mower and neither one of us uses it. My favorite song is, "Ain't I gonna take you fishin sometime?" We have a wood bur-ning stove and sure enough he lays on the couch watching TV and says, "Honey throw another log on the fire." Please, please, don't let them make it a law that we have equal rights. If I get any more equal I won't be able to stand it. |
