Swimmers Have Good Team Effort Coach Stan Crump praised his young team for their TEAM EFFORT au the Steel Days Invitation Meet held last Friday in American Fork. AF came up with a tremem-dous tremem-dous effort to keep the team trophy and were successful as they edged PG 338 to 298. Trailing slightly in the 11-12 girls 50 yard freestyle, Nina Oscarson followed the instructions in-structions of Coach Crump and finished the last 10 yards without a breath. This provided her with split second victiory and the first place trophy. Nina also won the 50 yard breast stroke. RELAY WIN The girls 11-12 free style relay took first. Team members mem-bers are Karen Bezzant, Mary Ann Phelon, Jalayne Giles and Nina Oscarson. Jason Allred posted a "doubleA" time of 36:04 in the 50 yard breast stroke and Coach Crump pointed out that the"ll-12 year old boys won evey event." Jason Allred also won the butterfly while Brock Bennett was first in the backstroke. John Gardner and Mike Oborn joined Bennett and Allred to win both relays, the freestyle and The butterfly was won by Allred, the backstroke by Brock Bennett while Mike Oborn won both the freestyle and Individual medley. John Garner joined Allred, Bennett and Oborn to win the relay. "We lost a few points because of a special rule limited competitors under eight to just two events which cut the possible points in half from that group" said Coach Crump. Orem finished third with 270 points and Springville was fourth with 170. MEET TODAY Competition this week will be at the local pool today. The opponent will be Oren with the meet scheduled to start at 6:00 am. Next week the team hosts Payson. |
