Show Roundabout Racers Have Many Stories to Tell This Year There are as many stories as competitors at Roundabout Roun-dabout Raceway and each is a story of how the race was won or lost. Fast time and new record to Mel Radmall in the Super Stock class and only one spin out during qualifying started the event. Garrett Bennett has gained a full second in his timeing since the first of the season and all with a 289 Ford and lots of work and perserverance . Kent Turner took the win in the Stock class trophy , dash. Robert Newman threaded thru spinning traffic into the lead with Grant Leonard hot on his tail. Leonard took the win after he spun Newman on the final turn of the Limited dash. Danny Houston was back in the Super Stock class Don West took the lead and the win in the Main event for the super stock class on a slick slick track. Radmall held the slot position behind Danny Houston but to no avail as Houston made no errors and came thru for second place. The Modified Main was Elwell's and three for three A special event was run for everyone who had never won a trophy. Six cars lined up and Greg Millar fought with Ivin Luke until Luke finally spun out then he came home with the win. Pedal Bike winners for the day were Chad Frampton, Spinner Lunt, Shayne Frampton, Fram-pton, Eric Mouritsen, Scott Doyle, and Kevin Brown. Kevin also won the Wheelie contest. again after a blown engine but Mel Radmall took the lead and the win. Craig Chynoweth took a quick lead in the Modified dash but Elwell took the win after a hard fought battle. 11 Cars took the green flag in the stock heat race and Pete Campbell went into the lead and wasn't about to give it up to Greg Millar who finally spun out. LeAlma Rhodes made her bid for the lead and spun and Little Pete had everything to his liking as he took the win. Steve Turner is good at making starts but his problem is finishing. Grant Leonard decided to play bumper cars and was black flaged. After spin outs and pile ups Garrett Bennett came thru for the win. In the Super stock head race Mike Richins took Don West out in turn two and then went on to play a cat mouse game with Radmall til he and Houston got around then it was a short lived first place for Houston and a dash to the finish with Radmall taking a second win for the day. Jack Elwell took the Modified heat after Cliff Cambell rolled on his top in turn one. The stock main event had only six starters of the eleven qualifiers, then there were five as Joe Haroldson lost a wheel on the start. Lew Harris took an early lead with LeAlma in a steady comfortable second place until she spun on the final lap and Carolyn Gurney came thru to take second. The Limited Main event brought out the guys who know the bumps and grinds. Turner once again out in the lead and Grant Leonard fighting his way into second and then disaster as Steve lost both rear wheels and fliDDed in turn two. Grant Leonard came thru for the win, with Robert Newman fighting Kent Turner Tur-ner all the way who drove the track as much sideways as forward. Newman finally gained second with Norm Rhodes third. |
