Show P.G. Swim Team Rides Over Spanish Fork by 468 to 61 Scott Jones and Jason Allred both brought home 4 first place ribbons. That is another strong relay team (11-12 (11-12 boys) and the Coach expects ex-pects Bennett, Gardiner, Allred and Oborn to lend some excitment, and rack up some points in coming contests. This week the team will travel to American Fork to the Steel Days Invitational, which has been changed to Friday, July 8. The bus will leave the pool at noon, and the Meet will begin at 1:00. Swimmers are reminded of the fees to enter. 25 cents will be charged for each event you enter, to cover costs of the trophies and metals. This should be paid as soon as possible. 13 and 14 year old swimmers swim-mers are still needed. Contact the Coach or the pool and register in time to be part of the success for the season. Another victory was earned by the Pleasant Grove Swim Team last week as they defeated Spanish Fork by an overwhelming margin of 468 to 61. Coach Stan Crump praised the dedication of individuals who met the early hour and with temperatures more than cool, performed very well. In fact, he stated that several swimmers had their best "times" recorded at that contest. Stan explained that with the benefit of a big lead, it was a good opportunity op-portunity to swim people in events that they hadn't tried before. He was able to do some experimenting and "time" different swimmers who may want to challange another teammate. One of the strongest age groups is the 9-10 year old boys. The Coach commented, "No one is going to beat that relay team, unless it is their own teammates." At the Spanish Fork Meet, the "B" team, comprised of Swapp, Welcher, Adamson, and Johansen, led the "A" team all the way, but in the final seconds was out touched by the "A" team. Norton, Slater, Huntsman, and Jones make up that team. This is a perfect illustration of the competition that keeps each swimmer striving to give 100 percent at all times. Even though an opposing team may be weak there is still reason to do your best. |
