Show Cards Win First Half In Little League Play by Von Keetch The first half of Little League play came to an end last week with close races in both leagues. The cards were the first half champs in the Strawberry League with an outstanding undefeated mark. The Cards won their final first half game against the Giants 22-14. Good pitching kept the Giants close and a home run by Joe Peterson spelled trouble for the Cards. However, with strong teamwork team-work and good coaching the Cards came on to win by an impressive 8 runs. Three teams go to the playoffs this year and the Cards are now assured a spot. The other two will come from the second half champion and the next team with the best overall record. Whatever the outcome there should be two more tough teams to represent Pleasnat Grove in the playoffs. In the Pioneer league the big story is the Wasps getting beat by the Braves 4-15. The Braves deserve a lot of credit for knocking off the tough Wasps and we'll have to wait and see if the Wasps can get back on the right track. Almost anything can happen in Pioneer league ball. The teams to watch in the second half should be the Giants and the Phillies with maybe the Pirates and Cubs sneaking in as dark horse teams. Look for everyone to be up for the Cards with the road getting tougher and tougher to achieve an undefeated mark in the second half. All in all it should be a great race to the finish.
