It commemorates the 126th anniversary of Pleasant Grove's founding in .1850. Visitors are welcome. Iltali Artist Paints 'Anniversary Picture The Bank of Pleasant Grove has commissioned Utah artist Gary Smith to recreate Pleasant Grove's first historical event, the battle of Battle Creek, which took place in February of 1849. The six by nine foot painting Will be officially of-ficially unveiled in the bank building Friday, Sept., 17, commemorating the . week, of the 126th anniversary of the city's founding in 1850. The painting will be one of upcoming moving picture "Brigham." "We're very proud of our pioneer heritage," commented Bank of Pleasant Grove president Kay L. Jacobs, "and we're pleased to have Gary Smith help recreate it for us. The clash was the first between the Mormon pioneers and Indians, In-dians, ending with the death of four of the Utes. The artist, Gary E. Smith, a graduate of Brigham Young University, has executed historical commissions throughout the state of Utah and is represented in private and university collections across the nation. He is presently involved in recreating the Salt Lake Valley as it appeared in 1847 for the |
