Show New Name 'Job Service Center' ' ; "From now on we are going I; to be known as 'Job Service.' .' ; Beginning immediately our local Employment Security Office will become a "Job Service Center," said Mr. ' LeRue Thurston, local office ; manager. The new red, white, and blue bannermark insignia ; will appear on all of our communications and individuals in-dividuals calling in to our office will find the telephones answered, an-swered, "Job Service." There will be further advertising in newspapers, on television, and over the radio to acquaint the public with our new name and image. A major change in emphasis ' will be to seek a larger cross section of applications and job openings. The Job Service 1 hopes to increase the number of I highly skilled applicants listed I and to increase the number of job openings received from employers for matching. None of the services now offered by the'local office will be done away with, but rather expanded to serve a larger segment of the population in our area. Our statistics show that a reduction of the average length of unemployment in Utah by one week would result in an additional $6.1 million dollars in Utah each year. If the employers of Utah County listed their job openings with us and we can perform our services ser-vices more efficiently and effectively, we can help reduce the length of time workers are unemployed; thereby adding to the economic wellbeing of the individual, community, state and nation. Another important step taken during the past year by the Utah Department of Employment Em-ployment Security is the opening of nine smaller offices throughout the state to serve workers and employers narer to them. There are now 25 offices located throughout the state. Each of these offices have access to a computerized job matching service where both job openings and applicant files are stored and matched by computer. "We hope our Job Service awareness program will bring a greater public understanding of our important role in keeping employment high, a greater awareness and recognition of the total organization, and will symbolize a dramatic new initiative in matching people and jobs," Mr. Thurston said. People looking for work are encouraged to make an application ap-plication at the Job Service Office. Employers with job openings are requested to contact the Job Service Office and list their needs. There is no charge for this service.. |
