Show Telephone Lines Will Be Busy for BYU Fund Raising Telephone lines will be busier than usual during the next two weeks (Oct. 21-31) when some 60 volunteers will call approximately ap-proximately 20,000 Brigham Young University alumni, parents of current students, and friends in the annual Utah County Telefund. Kenneth J. Taylor, coordinator coor-dinator of the program in The Development Office, pointed ' out that funds will be solicited for BYU, BYU-Hawaii Cam-1 Cam-1 pus, and Ricks College. 1 Calls will be made from 6-; 6-; 9:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 21) ' through Friday (Oct. 24), then ' the same time the following Tuesday through Friday (Oct. ' 27-31). Working in a large room in ' the Alumni House on the BYU ' campus, callers will include alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and friends of the University. ' Mr. Taylor pointed out that BYU is seeking to raise $20 ! million this year to launch its J second century and advance educational excellence, including in-cluding the new library ad-' ad-' dition, an endowed institute of family research, and increased ' assistance and scholarships for students. Its primary needs include student loans, scholarships, and travel money in order to help get students from the great distances to the campus. Ricks College is the largest church-related junior college in the United States and is currently attempting to raise over $4 million for an exciting new agricultural complex, buy additional volumes for the library and purchase a new pipe organ for the fine arts center. LDS Church schools involve more than 7,000 teachers and staff, working with more than 300,000 students in 50 countries--from Canada to Chile and to the islands of the seas and beyond. Through an international in-ternational network of seminaries and institutes, the LDS Church provides weekday religious education and social activity for more than 250,000 young men and women. |
