Show IRS Lists Reasons to File Estimated Tax for Next Year SALT LAKE CITY If your total estimated income tax and self-employment tax for 1973 exceeds your income tax withholding with-holding by $100 or more, you should file a declaration of estimated es-timated tax, Roland V. The 1040-ES Forms are available avail-able at local IRS offices for those who need them but did not receive copies in the mail. You may also be required to file a declaration of estimated tax if you have more than $500 in income not subject to withholding, with-holding, if you are retired or will retire soon, or if your income in-come exceeds certain limits.
