K'"- : FRENCH Dawn Christensen, student from PGHS, teaches Grovecrest students how to count, tell colors, and other basic French words. Dawn is a sterling scholar at PGHS. Dawn Christensen Teaches French at Grovecrest Pleasant Grove High School student Dawn Christensen, a Sterling Scholar in foreign languages, has been the guest of Mrs. Maxine Fugal's fourth grade at Grovecrest Elemen-tary where she has been teach-ing them French. Miss Christensen taught a- - bout 35 students numbers from one to ten, colors, and other basics of French. Dawn is the daughter of John V. and Wanza Christensen. Funeral Rites Held Last Saturday for Arthur C. Winters Funeral services were held last Saturday for Arthur Cyril Winters, who died Wednesday, March 7 in the Utah Valley Hospital after a long illness. Speakers at the services were Calvin Walker and Arvil Wadley. Musical numbers were given by Nancy Ekins, accompanied by Maxine Fugal, and an or-gan solo by Julie Olsen. The congregation sang the closing number directed by Mrs. Ekins and accompanied by Mrs. Fu-gal. Family Prayer was given by Wayne Winters and the invoca-tion by William F. Mooy. Ben-ediction was given by Dale W. Jones. The grave in the Pleas-ant Grove City Cemetery was dedicated by Vaughn Clegg. Pallbearers were Larry Win-ters, William Mooy Jr., Mike Winters, Brent Winters, Nor-man Winters Jr. and Steven Winters. Mr. Winters was born Sept. 24, 1894 in Pleasant Grove, a son of Arthur Ray and Eliza-beth Wadley Winters. He mar-ried Verona Clegg on June 28, 1927 in Salt Lake City. Mr. Winters was a sheep her-der, worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, and for 20 years was a Utah County Sheriff's Deputy. Survivors include his widow, four sons and two daughters, Wayne A. Winters, Draper; Mrs. Dale (Verleen) Jones, Salt Lake City; Weston D. and Gary Winters, both Pleasant Grove; Mrs. William (Wanda) Mooy, Sunnyvale, Calif., and Arnell W. Winters, El Paso, Texas. 22 grandchildren, four broth-ers and five sisters, Shirley W. Winters, Mountain View, Calif; Mrs. Roy (Florence) Harker, Shelley, Ida.; Norman Winters, Lehi; Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Col-lier, Vernal; Alden Winters, Riverton; Mrs. Mary Cook, Caldwell, Ida.; and Mrs. Clif-ford (Susan) Prestwich, Mrs. Dee (Norma) Freeman and Gailen Winters, all of Pleasant Grove. Funeral Services Monday for Sharon Newman A Pleasant Grove mother of three children died instantly when she was thrown by her horse while riding with a friend on the canyon road near Am. Fork. Mrs. Robert R. (Sharon) Newman was pronuonced dead on arrival at the American Fork Hospital. Mrs. Newman was riding with Mrs. Larry Walker of Am. Fork when the horse threw her and she landed on rocks near the road. She suffered a brok-en neck and head injuries. Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Newman in the PI. Grove Sixth Ward Chap-el at 11 a.m. under the direc-tion of Bishop Cloyd Christian-sen. Speakers at the services were Ross Bratt and President Grant Hodgkinson. Life sketch was given by Joyce Durrant. Musical numbers were a vo-cal solo by Wilma Taylor ac-companied by Catherine Rees, and a vocal duet by Jeanne Walker and JoAnn Brady, ac-companied by Laurel Thome. Hugh Allred sang the closing number, accompanied by Ann Fisher. Prayers were given by Lynn Newman, who gave the family prayer, and Lyman Sevy, who gave the opening prayer. Ben-ediction was given by Daryl Huish and Dr. Jack Batchler dedicated the grave in the PI. Grove City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Baird Jon-es, David Hansen, Clyde Zorn, Dean Durrant, Harold Newman Craig Smith, John Perryman, and Dee Newman. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Lund and Lynn Stewart. Sharon Ann Newman was born March 8, 1943 in Salt Lake City to Archie R. and Gwen Jones Morgan. She mar-ried Robert R. Newman May 19, 1961 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later sol-emnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She was active in the LDS Church, and was also a mem-ber of the Pleasant Grove Gar-den Club. Surviving are her husband, one son and two daughters, Scott, Brabara and Christine, all of Pleasant Grove; her par-ents, Murray and two brothers Thomas Morgan, Salt Lake City Van Gagley, of Idaho Falls and her grandmother, Mrs. Glade Jones of Gunnison.
