Grove High Last Wedensday Pleasant Grove High School C.D.T.A. Class graduated their preschoolers. pre-schoolers. Senior girls who participated as student teachers teach-ers in the Child Development-Teacher Development-Teacher Aide Class had a sense of nostalgia as the thirty thir-ty four and five year old boys and girls received diplomas. The student teachers were excited at the progress the preschoolers pre-schoolers had made during the last two and one-half months of schooling. One student stu-dent - teacher remarked, "I never realized how smart little kids are. It takes a lot of work to teach and take care of children. If nothing else I have learned that each child is an individual and needs to be treated differently." One parent commented on the C.D.T.A. Program saying that she noticed that her child was taught a concept every day such as what makes a kite fly, or snow makes water when it melts. Another parent said, "The pre-school graduation exercises exercis-es were especially impressive. I actually think that will re- main with us as long as a high school graduation." Delores Bradshaw, advisor of the C.D.T.A. Class, noted that the pre-school experience can be a very good first step i in beginning school. Children leave their families for an hour and a half each day and are with children of their own age. They learn many of the things which will prepare them for learning to read, write and use number concepts. Most of all, they learn what it is like to be in school. They leam more about themselves as they adjust ad-just to the expectations of other people. The C.D.T.A Program at the high school is open to both senior boys and girls. The class is designed not only to help the community, but to lead the high school student to a better understanding of selt j and others; basic needs of children; desirable attitudes toward children; responsibilities responsibilit-ies of parenthood; influences of heredity and environment on the individual; and employment employ-ment opportunities. |
