Show Farmers Almanac Predicts Long, Cold, Bad Winter A long cold, stormy winter followed by a late spring are among the weather predictions ofthe new 1971 Old Farmer's Almanac. The publication, dating to 1792, predicts that winter will arrive in November, "with a snowstorm from Chicago to the East Coast; if not snow, surely heavy rains." Basing its predictions on an old "secret formula" which the almanac says evolved from a study of records dating back to the 16th Century, the publication publi-cation is headed by Rob Trowbridge, Trow-bridge, 39, and Judson Hale, 3, both of Dublin, N.H. Cold Weather" Writing together as "Abe Weatherwise," the two men are forecasting temperatures "generally two degrees colder across the country both summer sum-mer and winter." Also in store for the nation is a storm "with snow or sleet throughout the United States" on New Year's Eve. Following this will be a storm Jan 10 to 15, predicts the almanac, and then a blizzard from the West beginning Jan. 20. Other winter storms forecast in the new Almanac edition include bad weather Feb. 8-10; Feb. 13-17; Feb. 22-27; March 2-4; March 5-8; March 20-22; March 27-31; April 1014; April 1923, and April 26-30. |
