Show Community School Begins in Alpine District in January Alpine School District is making ma-king plans to inaugurate community com-munity school programs in the district beginning in January. This week, questionnaires were sent home with school children explaining the community school program and asking the family members to indicate their interests on a check list. Interests expressed on the questionnaires will serve as a guide for developing programs which will begin in January. Parents are urged to complete the survey and return it to the school immediately. The purpose of the community commun-ity school is to serve all the people, regardless of their age, with programs and activities that interest them. It is the common meeting ground where living and learning join forces to make the community a better bet-ter place in which to live. Hopefully, Hope-fully, the Community School will eventually extend its services ser-vices around the clock and a-round a-round the calendar. It will expand ex-pand the school program to the areas of youth enrichment, recreation, rec-reation, adult education, and the solving of community problems. prob-lems. Alpine School District will not be able to develop the total community school program at this time because of limited funds. However, the district has had a comprehensive adult education edu-cation program for several years, and the cities within the district have developed outstanding outstan-ding recreation activities. The community school program will not duplicate these services, but will attempt to coordinate and supplement them. Persons named to direct the program in the district are: Ellen W. Brown, Parlell Peterson Peter-son and Madge Davies, representing repre-senting Or em; Matthew Keith Bezzant, representing Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove; Don Mower, American Amer-ican Fork; and James Gray, Lehi. Each committee member has appointed a committee representing rep-resenting school, church and community leaders to advise him of community needs and desires. |
