Show Chairmen Named For Utah Progress Week John W. Gallivan, publisher of the Salt Lake Tribune, and Arch L. Madsen, president of Bonneville International Corp. were named recently as co-chairmen co-chairmen of Utah Progress Week by Governor Calvin L. Rampton and Milton L. Weilen-mann, Weilen-mann, director of the Utah Department De-partment of Development Services. Ser-vices. A full week of activities will be held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of statehood which is January , 1971. Utah worked for years to achieve statehood and on Jan. 4, 1896 at 10:03 EST President Grover Cleveland signed the bill making Utah the 45th State of the Union. According to one newspaper report, the message was telegraphed tele-graphed to Utah by a Utah delegation in Washington D.C. and when the telegrapher in Salt Lake City received the message he dashed out of his office and fired a shotgun to inform citizens of Utah was now a state. A full committee is expected to be named soon to organize the special activites of Progress Pro-gress Week. The coinrnittee will be made up of representatives represent-atives of a broad segment f people, including businesmea, churchmen, etc. As co-chairmen of the event, Mr. Gallivan and Mr. Madsen will direct the activities of the commitee and Progress Week. |
