Campaign is on. Candidates for City Offices Selected by Peoples Party The People's Party met last Wednesday and nominated Jack E. Cook, mangager of the Anderson Lumber Co. Mill in Provo and a Pleasant Grove community leader, as candidate candi-date for mayor. Peoples Party candidates for city council, nominated at the same meeting, are W. Cornell Haynie, industrial engineer at Geneva Steel Co., and C. Harvey Har-vey Rawlinson, elementary education ed-ucation teacher in the Lindon School. Mr. Cook was born in American Amer-ican Fork and educated locally, graduating from Pleasant Grove High School in 1937. In civic activities he was a member mem-ber of the Planning Commission for 12 years four years as its chairman. He has been a member of the Veterans Council since it was organized and aided in the planning and building of the swimming pool. He has been employed at Anderson An-derson Lumber Co. in Provo for 22 years as salesman, designer, construction supervisor and as assistant manager. At present he is manager of the mill. He has held numerous LDS Church positions and was re- cently released from the Fourth Ward bishopric. An active scouter for many years, he is presently serving as advisor in his ward. During World War II he served serv-ed in the Pacific Theatre. He married the former Beth Wan-less Wan-less of American Fork, and they are the parents of three sons. C. Harvey Rawlinson, a newcomer new-comer to politics, has lived in Pleasant Grove since 1951. He was born in Oak City, Millard County, and grew up and attended at-tended schools in Delta. He received re-ceived his higher education at Snow College and his B.S. degree de-gree from the BYU. He began teaching in 1938 and is now at teacher at Lindon Elementary School. An active member of the LDS Church, he has served in most phases of the different auxiliaries. auxil-iaries. He is presently a member mem-ber of the Pleasant Grove Ki-wanis Ki-wanis Club, and has been active ac-tive in the Lions Club. He is married to the former Nelda Hicken from Heber City, and they are the parents of two boys and a girl. W. Cornell Haynie is an industrial in-dustrial engineer at Geneva Works. Born in Manassa, Colo, he attended schools in Colorado and received his engineering degree from the University of Colorado in 1963. He moved to Pleasant Grove the same year. He is presently serving as president of the Pleasant Grove Kiwanis Club. A member of the LDS Church he has served various church positions, including five years as a member of the Seventh Ward bishopric, three years as ward clerk, and is presently an Aaronic priesthood advisor. He is married to the former Karla Smih and they have six children. |
