Show Region 4 Football League to Start Friday; Vikings at Orem The 1968 Region Four football foot-ball season will open Friday, Sept. 6 with all 10 teams playing play-ing league games with the possible pos-sible exception of Carbon and Pay son. Carbon will no doubt forfeit to Payson due to the fact that the Dinosaurs have been minus a coaching staff as of last Saturday, due to the teacher and school board confrontation con-frontation in Price. According to the official Region Re-gion Four schedule, American Fork will play at Lehi; Provo at Uintah; Springville at Spanish Span-ish Fork and Pleasant Grove at Orem. All are night games except the P.G. -Orem contest, which will begin at 3 p.m. Only five teams out of the 10 have had the benefit of preseason pre-season games, all played last Friday. The Lehi Pioneers dropped Weber High School 7-0 in a contest staged in Lehi. The Provo Bulldogs bowed to the Box Elder Bees, 30-14; Payson smothered the Bear River Bears 32-6; Uintah lost to Union 21-14 and Spanish Fork bowed to Bonneville, 6-0. From all present indications, the Lehi Pioneers may make it tough this season for the other oth-er teams in the Northern Divi- sion of Region Four. Payson may again be the powerhouse in the Southern Division. Of course the Orem Tigers of Coach Udell Westover, will continue to be a force to be reckoned with. As Coach Ron Nielson of the P.G. Vikings remarked, re-marked, "Any Region Four senior high school with an enrollment en-rollment of 1,000 or more, has a distinct advantage over the smaller schools." Even at that, the Vikings ended with a 7-2 record last year. |
