Show 1 DIXIE FOREST DOINGS A new road nine miles in length from the cedar long valley highway through strawberry valley to strawberry point Is 13 biow now completed making in akin one of the roost most wonderful scenic panoramas in the west readily accessible to the public straw derry point abounds in fantastic rock formations of many hues rivaling bryce canyon in beauty from its height a complete circle of magnificent ent vistas can be viewed northward and eastward stretches chea many miles of timbered mountains within the dixie national forest foreit beyond which the beaver mountains of the fishlike fishlake Fish lake forest and I 1 the ithe sevier mountains on the powell forest are visible to the eastward the vermillion breaks of the powell plateau appear in majestic beauty and tar far beyond the dim outlines of the rugged henry mountains in southeast utah can be seen the I 1 many colored bluffs around kanab the blue green kaibab plateau and the rugged virgin river canyon provide interest and beauty to the southward view immediately below the peak to the southwest and a nd west lies the drainage of the deap river culminating in zion canyon the spires and bluffs of which afford an inspiring view almost equal to that flom the floor of zion mon canyon itself on the western horizon the Bun bunkerville kerville beaver dam and pine valley mountains terminate ur minate a wonderful view in that direction it Is anticipated that strawberry point will soon become one of the most popular reccea onal spots in southern utah the road itself extends through a picturesque valley and timbered slopes and Is in excellent condition for travel the road leaves the cedar long dong valley highway five miles below the duck creek ranger station and nine rr miles iles west ot of Gravel springs junction on oil highway 89 this road was one of the projects at the duck creek camp and the overhead and enrollees engaged in construction of the road alej are jo 0 be commended tor for their excellent work the finishing touches are now being made by the duck creek camp on a new public camp ground and on a summer home area at navajo lake there are now two public camp grounds on the edge of the lake which are unsurpassed tor for beauty and convenience to the public A pipe line to the summer home area Is nearing completion and with in the next week or two it will be entirely ready tor for occupancy by those desiring summer homes in the mountains individual home sites have been surveyed and a spur toad road and pipe line have been constructed to each lot there have already been several applications for lots and summer homes will be constructed at acted ted by these applicants early next season Af members embers of the dihe public who desire to lease lots for summer homes at a t navajo lake should apply to ranger seaman or to the forest supervisors office ranger and mrs S capps oldest son departs this week tor for a mission to the netherlands the personnel of the dixie forest wish him god speed peed in his labors |
