Show RESPECTED PARAGONAH LADY BURIED SATURDAY funeral services were held last saturday at 2 p in in the nah ward chapel for mrs martha jane openshaw widow of job 0 penshaw and a member of the ori original party of settlers who made the trip across the colorado river at the hole in the rock crossing into san juan county in 1880 mrs openshaw died at the hoffe of a daughter in panguitch wednesday after a long illness she was 80 years old the services were conducted by bishop J leonard and commenced with the choir directed by amasa stones singing oh my father the opening prayer was offered by thomas robinson after which the choir sang though deepening trials speakers were thomas munford of cedar city K X doyle robinson amenzo and thomas W jones mrs dena williamson gave the history of mrs Open shaws life other musical numbers were a violin solo by silas of paro wan with itha cn at the piano a vocal solo by lois munford of cedar city a male quartet number by ray garner gamer clair rowley ormon weight and ivan docker decker with mrs at the piano closing remarks were made by bishop the choir sang rest rest for the weary soul and the closing prayer was offered by frank K williamson at the cemetery the choir sang slumber and gustus twitchell of widtsoe soe a grandson dedicated the grave the floral offerings were abundant and beautiful all of mrs 0 pen shaws children were here for the funeral also all of her brothers and sisters with the exception of mrs melvin of california who was unable to get here born in paragonah Para gonah on nov ath 1860 she was a daughter of benjak min and ellen williamson watts she married mr openshaw in the st SL george temple in june 1880 and they left the following november to settle san juan county making the arduous trip by wagon with the first party she was was a teacher in the para gonah ward nvard relief society for many years and at the time of iier her death was the only gold star mother in northern iron county her husband died in 1908 she is survived by five sons and daughters mrs nels ipson of pan benjamin W openshaw of paragonah Para gonah mrs william twitchell of antimony mrs ray hatch of oxford idaho and john N openshaw of milford five brothers ana sisters benjamin watts of aurora wm J watts of tooele thoele mrs A W horsley of price mrs hyrum robinson of paragonah Para gonah and mrs of santa monica calif 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren |
