| Show dates set for this year s race meet meeta parowan carowan will hold its 1940 race meet on august 8 3 9 and 10 according to an announcement made at the conclusion ot of last years meet rind and reiterated during the week by a committee committee named last year to made preliminary arrangements for this years event early announcement of these dates is made to avoid if possible conflict with dates for other similar events during the season in southern utah towns an article in the daily press recently gave dates which have been selected for a number of meets and fairs this full fall beginning with on august 15 16 and 17 or just a week later than ours the committee above referred to ras las probably no official standing except that it was named by last cai s general committee to tak 1 the initiative in the community in preparing for a 1940 meet it includes R L fenton harrell dalton wm T orton carlisle dalton and merrill thornton as we recall it with clair hulet as sec secretary and treasurer the latter is iii hi charge of a substantial balance which was left over from last years meet and which will forma form a nucleus for this year A public meet ing will undoubtedly be called 1 in 11 the nea for the purpose of naming this years general committee whether anything will be done in th the county about a fair this fall known but the dates tentatively set for the race meet are probably too early for a fair if the latter is desired some action in that direction should be taken immediately in 1 in co connection t 6 n wi with th the race meet the gun and road club which has a lease on the track and stables until next august voted at a meeting monday night to cancel the lease and turn the property back to the city as soon as possible club members reported that the track and stables have been nothing but a headache and an expense to the club ever since it took over the property some time ago as a community project application of loral race horse men to rent the stables for the summer promise further dissatisfaction unless they are handled about right |
