Show ARMISTICE DAY WAS FITTINGLY OBSERVED armistice day was very fittingly observed in this thia community the tha days program under the auspices of 0 post no 20 Ameri Amer ican lican legion went over in a creditable manner from the first morning salute to the home sweet home dance the parade in the morning starting from the east side of 0 town was waa an inspiring sight eight and one of the biggest parades in the history ot of parowan carowan Pa rowan due largely to the ot of school children with their patriotic banners and slogans headed by a color guard bearing old glory and followed by a score of red hursei then the legion men in uniform the band an ambulance the big motorized french 75 gun from the national guard battery at cedar city and then the school classes and ors org it was a sight to inspire patriotism and loyalty captain Ilar hardys flys bringing the big gun and a number of the national guardsmen guardsman Guards men in full uniform up here tor for the parade and their shooting demonstration was an attraction in and ot it gelt with the huge war weapon pointed toward the red hill they gave a very vivid explanation and illustration of how to get the location and range ot of the object at which they were shooting singling out a small projecting electing pr ledge on the mountain side they fired several shots ehlts each time adjusting the gun and getting nearer until finally they were hitting squarely on top of their object the members of the unit who aho were with captain hardy and their capacity we tailed failed to learn except that H E peterson and mont hunter were recognized among the number their military bearing their obedience to command and their apparent knowledge of just how to man the big gun were tather rather impre preside sive and their coming up to help with the celebration was very much appreciated both by the legion and the public the public was one of the kind one likes to attend snappy and not too long with a program substantially ly as announced anno in these col ams last week principal cipal hatch as speaker of the occasion reviewed briefly the events of nine years ago both at home and abroad when the armistice was signed and then told somewhat of the legions ideals and alms at the of the meeting taps were sounded by S L burton as bugler and the audieri bt stood for or a moment in silent tribute to the fallen heroes ot of that great conflict before E G matheson as aa chaplin pronounced the benediction A rather interesting program of 0 races was conducted at the old rate race track in the afternoon with some of the two year old hol ho blooded colts owned locally as the chief participants the first race by dark clark or ton tons s filley and art petersons Peter sona golding gelding went to the filley by less than a neck in three hundred yards the see continued to back page ARMISTICE DAY WAS FITTINGLY OBSERVED continued from first page ond race between W W Al Itchell s filley and ernest daltwas daltons Dal toas tons gelding was waa won easily by the latter then 1 I ben the losing two in the previous races and P A darks clarks sorrel which he had purchased only the day before the george bentley falley and which had never been galloped before ran the third raco race with the mitchell Ml filley as an easy winner the orton and dalton colts both winners in the previous races ran the last race the tilley filley nosing out on the horse titter after he had floundered in the soft track several pony races were also run and the two horses dr henry and adalid were galloped i through as an exhibition the main boxing bout of the ev between marlon marion whitney of parowan carowan and charles Renni iau 0 of cedar city was decided in Ren Renno aus favor avor Whit whitneys defeat wils was attributed to lack of training and of 0 aggressiveness gressi veness in tho ring there was no knockout knock out this event scarcely eclipsed one of 0 the preliminaries a bout between elmo lowder of paro wan and arlington of 0 cedar I 1 city who fought three rounds to a draw and they fought every minute too other preliminaries were between gene lowder and orey heap woodrow adams and ad mack alack fenton and leroy Ma malmberg Imberg and worth orton Ren sportsmanship in copjec connection with the main bout was freely commented upon by legion men who had to do with the program |
