Show I 1 representative DAY DAT WOULD HELP FARMERS I 1 Is urging scheme to release of state land money for immediate use of farmers and stock growers of the state representative wilford day of this city is using his influence politically and otherwise with the governor the state land commissioner and other officials to have 0 of f I 1 state land money which is naw now tied up tip in municipal bonds etc released for immediate use of the farmers and stock growers of the state ile he is working on the theory that money under the control of the land commissioner iniss ioner should be used exclusively in aiding the agricultural interests of f the state to get cheap gonei money and not in financing municipal projects etc because bonding houses are glad to hindle handle the latter vats cias or of investments while there are no other methods except the federal farm loan companies for getting money at low rates for farmers while the state has no available money for loaning at this time it has 2000 2 invested in various bonds which could be readily disposed of and the proceeds if distributed throughout the state in ill the form of five year farm loans would mean salvation to a lot of husbandmen A provision in the law provides that certain funds in the hands bands of the land commissioner iniss ioner must be kept intact but mr days plan would get around that by y letting the farmers have the bonds on their applications for loans and then helping them dispose of the bonds by keeping in touch with bonding houses and advising where they could be sold the fanner would in that event have to stand any difference between the par value and the selling price of the bonds but even then his money would not cost to exceed six arid and a half c r seven per cent with five years time in which to pay it released within the next sixty or ninety days in this state would help out wonderfully and while every farmer fanner might not get part of it yet a large amount of it would find its way into er ch ca of our banks arid and thereby relieve conditions for business generally to a very appreciable extent the governor the land commissioner and in fact all who have considered the proposition according to mr air day are favorable to it and if the proper influence is brought to bear it should be put over almost immediately incidentally with a state land appraiser right here in our community we should have no difficulty in getting our share of the benefits of the proposition |
