Show Rec director wants to spread the fun I i,juiuiw"m 1,1 i 1 Pam Bradford is easing into her new position as Park City's assistant recreation director. The Moscow, Idaho, native has been involved with recreation since she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho in 1976. Her first job was program coordinator for the Pocatello City Recreation Department from 1976-78. In the fall of '78 she entered Idaho State to obtain her teaching certificate in physical education. After she earned her certificate, she moved to Boise to teach junior high school gymnastics and high school volleyball for the school district. She left academia, but remained in Boise to work for the Courthouse Racquetball Club for 2V2 years. Bradford's next move was to Utah, where she became the Vernal City Uintah County Parks and . Recreation Direction. While in Vernal, she met and married Gary Bradford, who was working for a paving firm there. I Gary was transfered to Salt Lake City. The separation soon led Pam to look for a job closer to her husband. The opening on the Park City recreation staff was just what she was looking for. . "I loved the area, was impressed with the department and was excited about the things the rec department can do here," Bradford said. "However, it is hard to set goals for now. I need more time to get oriented." Bradford, who has been on the job one week, said she realizes her main duty is to be responsible to the community. Initially, however, she said she favors more organized events. "I hope to see more leagues get started, for instance women's basketball and volleyball. But that depends on the interest. I would also like to see more fun runs for those people who aren't hard-core mara-thoners.'' mara-thoners.'' Because she is the mother of a daughter, Christie, 10 months, Bradford has a special interest in youth programs and so far she likes what she sees in Park City's youth programs. "The Day Camp Program and Summer Youth Program are both . excellent programs for children," she said. "There may, however, be room for youth tennis and swim programs also." Her desire for a wide variety of sport programs may stem from her description of herself. "I'm not real good at any one sport, but I like to do them all. "I'll play tennis, swim, snow or water ski, play racquetball and bicycle I'm not a 20-miler, just an around-town rider." She stressed she is interested in community input and that if anyone qualified to instruct classes wants to teach, he or she should call her. She is organizing the fall brochure of recreation activities for the Memorial Building and noted there is room for new programs. Pam Bradford has new ideas for recreation programs. |
