Show 8 School superintendent proposes district goals for the new year Park City School District Superintendent Tony Mitchell Mit-chell has presented the Board of Education with a list of 13 proposed goals upon which to focus his energies for the next six months . The district currently does not have a written statement of goals, Mitchell told the board. "It has, however, accomplished a number of goals which it informally established for itself," he said, citing as examples the hiring of a superintendent, the passage of the voted leeway funds and the recent negotiation agreement with the teachers. Mitchell is seeking input from the board, the school community councils and interested citizens about each of his recommendations recommenda-tions and how they should be prioritized. "The proposed statement of goals is provided pro-vided in an effort to focus our activities toward specific spe-cific achievable outcomes, he said. Mitchell's goals include reviewing the curriculum and adopting a district-wide-academic testing program to gauge both the students'' progress and the effectiveness effective-ness of various teaching methods. He has suggested increasing increas-ing the number of in-service education opportunities available to the teachers and he is committed toward working on a compatible orderly termination policy with the Park City Education Educa-tion Association. Mitchell hopes to implement imple-ment a budget-setting process pro-cess for the next fiscal year which would allow for more public participation and would allow the board to make better financial policy decisions. He would like to see the board continue to cooperate with the city and county governments in setting up community education services. ser-vices. Mitchell added that he felt it was also time to start, developing an international education program. Mitchell said that within, the next six months he will also explore the possibility of setting up a Park City School District foundation. Through it, members of the public could make tax-deductible tax-deductible contributions to the schools for purchases and improvements beyond the capabilities of the budget. bud-get. "I think it is important to get our major initiatives out on the table," Mitchell told the board. The board's initial reaction reac-tion to Mitchell's proposals was enthusiastic. "The neat thing is that he has already begun on more than half of them," said board member Nancy McComb. ,. |
