Show Shannon Nobis is queen of Nordic Valley giant slaloms ; by Randy Hanskat While many members of the Park City Ski Team were gearing up for the Junior Olympics, their smaller counterparts coun-terparts the younger Jills :(ages 12-13), the JIVs (10-11) and JVs (9 and under) raced rac-ed in two giant slaloms at ,'Nordic Valley. And Shannon Nobis came home with two trophies, both first place. " Nobis is a JIV, but often races with the JLT class so 'that she gets some real competition she wins virtu- '.ally every race when she goes ;up against the other JIV racers. It was no different at Nordic Valley. Nobis wen both g.s. races handily. "Andrea Ruzicka turned in the : next best Park City JIV result with a third place finish on Sunday. The Park City JIV boys also did well. Jason Parkin, who has had good success all season, grabbed second Saturday, and then came on Sunday for the win. Carter Gregory was in hot pursuit, finishing third Saturday and second Sunday. Mike Fleming, Flem-ing, also of Park City, took third on Sunday. Jill Maasberg had good results in the JUI class. She was third Saturday and first Sunday. Kerry Lewis turned in a surprising second Sunday. Ross Toelke was the best local Jill boy with a third-place showing on Sunday. Sun-day. Star Clark of Park City and Stacey Brown of Ogden Valley battled it out once again in the JV girls. Those two have been consistently superior to the rest of the field, with their only real competition coming from each other. This weekend it was Brown who grabbed the top honors, taking first in both races, while Clark was second. Rachael Salomon of Park City grabbed a third place on Sunday. Among the JV boys from Park City, Tav Streit did the best with a third place on Saturday. There are two big events left in the season for the younger racers. The first will be March 24 and 25 at Snowbird the Tribune Classic. Then the season finale will be the JHI-V Intermountain Championships Champion-ships at Jackson Hole starting start-ing March 30. |
